Innovation Trends in Healthcare, an Update
Brett Trusko,
PhD Student, Universidad de Vigo
The lack of systems thinking has long crippled innovation in healthcare. Silos between physicians and administration, nursing and administration, paraprofessionals and clerical have contributed significantly to patient safety events and lack of innovation. Recently, healthcare professionals have begun to recognize that until these crippling systems failures are resolved, healthcare institutions will remain a dangerous place for patients.
This presentation will discuss recent advances in healthcare quality, safety and innovation including checklists, federal funding of innovation initiatives, privacy, security and the continued barriers to innovation in health care. The presenter will allow time at the end of the talk to specifically solicit opinions and discussion about healthcare innovation and how to move it forward.
